SlideHeroes provides online video-based training for professionals looking to learn to create compelling business presentations.
We believe presentation writing skills are under-rated. They can have a profound effect on your career success.
In fact, the ability to write clear and impactful PowerPoint presentations is, for young and mid-level professionals, one of the most valuable skills you can master.
- PowerPoint (Keynote) is the de facto paradigm for internal corporate communication today
- The ability to present ideas and results in an understandable and compelling way can be a key differentiator (frankly many people are simply not very good at it)
- Strong communication skills make professionals more effective – they save time that would otherwise be spent resolving issues that arise from mis-communication
The problem many face is that unless a professional lucks out early in their career and learns the craft of creating business presentations from someone pretty exceptional – their presentation development skills are probably pretty poor.
SlideHeroes seeks to change that
The sit-down business presentation, not the auditorium style speech
The vast majority of business presentations are not made standing-up, in-front of a crowd. Instead, they are made sitting down, around a table, updating a project team or presenting our thinking/ideas/recommendations to our boss.
The creation of the presentation content (story, structure, logic, data), not simply the delivery of it
The success of sit-down style presentations relies, in large part, on the clarity, crispness, and punch of the content on the page. Learning to create, rather than just deliver, a presentation is critical.
The mastery of a broad set of skills, not just one
Becoming exceptional at crafting board-level presentations is tough. Crafting successful presentations is a multi-disciplinary challenge that requires the mastery of a broad SET of distinct skills. These five disciples form the backbone of our teaching:
- The Art of Storytelling
- The Power of Logical Structure
- The Science of Fact-based Persuasion
- The Harmony of Design
- The Drama of Performance
How We Help
In my day job, I am an SVP with a global financial services provider. Previously I was a management consultant (ex Oliver Wyman, London Business School MBA) and spent 15 years working with senior executive clients, helping them grow their businesses. All of it done via business presentations.
My first few years in consulting were spent in PowerPoint (as you do) and it turns out that just because you know how to use a pencil, doesn’t mean you can write a best-seller. Mastery of File / Save As wasn’t getting me far!
It was at Oliver Wyman that I discovered the craft of presentation development. I was exposed to a degree of rigor and expertise around communicating ideas, making recommendations, and pitching products and services that I had simply not known existed. It was like joining a secret club.
And it turns out that there were a lot of tricks, rules of thumb and mindsets (which I eventually discovered) that, quickly and very dramatically, can elevate even the worst presentation to a craftsman’s gold standard. The progress I made in fine-tuning my craft blew my mind.
My mission (and my commitment to you) is to teach this lost art of presentation craftsmanship and help as many people as I can avoid looking as foolish as I did when I first started!
Our Core Values
We Love Education
“Give a man a fish and feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime.”
– English proverb
We Pursue Excellence
“Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but rather we have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.”
We Practice Deliberately
“Practice doesn’t make perfect.
Practice reduces the imperfection.”
– Toba Beta, author
We Value Growth & Learning
“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”
– Mahatma Gandhi
